Our Services

Goldfields Occupational Medicine offers a variety of Industry-specific medicals designed to assess the health suitability of an existing employee or new applicant. The medicals are structured in such a manner to meet industry standards, including work cover guidelines and DOCEP legislated assessments.

Our practice is fully equipped with the latest medical equipment in order to manage all patient care and assessments or unexpected emergencies. Equipment includes: ECG monitor and Defibrillator, automated vital signs monitoring, Hyphrecator, minor surgical equipment, external response medical packs, advanced airway management and oxygen, as found in most general practices. We provide on-site laboratory collection and can have most results in hand prior to the end of the day. Consult rooms have standard medical practice equipment as well as advanced spirometry and diagnostic equipment.

We can fully accommodate visiting specialists as required in order to complement local health service access and provision. Our medical data base operates primarily from HCN's Medical Director program which complements our efficiency in access to information as required. We have modern high speed internet and networked computer systems in all consult rooms along with telecommunication systems that allow us to access external resources as needed while being able to still manager remote emergency industrial and mining calls.

Mine Industry Medicals

We have provided a brief description of some of the Mine medicals we perform below.

Complete Medical

This medical is intended for Heavy Industry and Mining. It provides a brief review of a persons health status and a basic physical assessment including a Breathing and Hearing Test. It is intended for those who hold a valid mine health surveillance and may be changing employers or an employee seeking to change their area of employment within the same industry and work place.

Mine Health Surveillance

Booking Code: TMHS

This service is a collection of data specific to heavy industry that allows authorities to identify potential risks in relation to hearing and breathing that may be caused from industrial exposure. These include: loud noise, dust and fumes. The examination includes an interview and industry employment history, along with a breathing and hearing test. 16 hours quiet time is essential prior to having a mine health surveillance. A mine health surveillance must be booked and paid my the employer.

Pre-Employment Package

A detailed medical that will include a full examination and physical assessment. It is intended for new and existing employees and encompasses the "Complete Medical" as well as the "Mine Health Surveillance". It is important that the candidate has had 16 hours quiet time prior to this medical.

Team Medical

The most basic of Medicals intended only for light work place employment such as reception or admin work. This medical is not intended for heavy industry new starters. It may be utilized as a short term site access medical for those who have already completed a significant medical and need to access a specific mine or industrial site for only a short term.

Muscular & Skeletal Examinations

This is an assessment of a persons physical capacity and includes a back examination, load tolerance, joint examination and range of movement assessment. Candidates need to dress in loose fitting cloaths and wear gym shoes as it will involve tests like: Pushups, Squats, Hover test, Weights and lifting skills and ergonomic postures under load.

Mine Rescue Medical

This medical is intended for those candidates who wish to join mine rescue. It consists of all the components of the Pre employment Package as well as a fitness test, musculoskeletal examination, 12 lead ECG if indicated. Additional musculoskeletal assessments are included in this examination that are specific to the demands of this role.

TV02MAX Testing (Fitness)

Booking Code: TVO2MAX

This is an assessment of a persons V02Max or fitness level. It is performed on the ASTRAND Bicycle or by a Step Test. It can be demanding for any person who is not reasonably fit. From the monitoring performed we calculate your V02MAX and assess your physical fitness level based on Astrand testing methods. Light Gym Gear is essential and candidates should bring a light refreshment with them.

Drug and Alcohol Screening

Booking Code: TDRUG

This is a monitored and supervised urine screen test as well as a breath test designed to test candidates for exposure to known elicit or contraindicated substances that may effect their judgment. The test results are sent to the employer. Please note we do not discuss your drug test results. If they are positive they are so till proven otherwise. The implications for a positive test are the employees responsibility.
